Just an opinion question for all of the parents on here:
Does it seem like doctors are throwing around the diagnosis of acid reflux around today like they used to do with colic in the older days?
As in, if the baby has any symptom that may possible be acid reflux, they prescribed Zantax like it’s nothing? And they used to say if a baby cried a lot, they just said it was colic without doing much else to determine the true cause?
Am I being paranoid or overly suspicious?
When my daughter was 4 months, a dr. said she had it and gave her Zantac. I was skeptical… I’m a nurse and didn’t want to give my newborn drugs!!! After a week she was fine without medication. But I read tons of things on here and I want tons of baby shows and it seems like Acid Reflux is the thing these days!!

With new technology you think doctors are able to find what’s wrong more easy, but is the same old story, medicate and the new diagnosis acid reflux. You are not paranoid you are a good mother who cares for your child.

I agree. Doctors nowadays are quick to diagnose and medicate.

Remember…doctors are practicing medicine.
I gave my babies percy’s medicine over the counter and a warm bottle on their tummys. I also bounced them on their tummys on my knee. It’s temporary and when their bowels adjust, you will have more peace.

what does a baby eat to produce acid?
I don’t know what to say. if the baby has it then you want to give the med to him, but if the baby don’t then wont it mess him up for adult years? giving him a weak stomach?
I really don’t know about babies but your doc might be right.

It really just depends on the doctor. Some are willing to listen to a mother and not jump to drugs. When my son was younger, he kept spitting up and spitting up. But, he has a great doctor who tried everything she could think of to help him before giving him Zantac. He did have reflux, but she monitored him and as soon as he could be off of the meds, he was. Some doctors just don’t want to take the time to try, they want the quick fix.
