Are cold sores herpes?

Is oral a ? Because im confused because i have had when i was little so that means I have herpes and alot of people have and well? So is that not more common then the common cold?

    Oral herpes is Herpes Simplex I, which causes the sores around your mouth, sometimes up to the nose.

    Once you have "cold sores". you have them for life, as the virus sits dormant in the nerve cells until they’re activated by cold, stress, or illness. Some people have them recur often, and for some, they may only have one outbreak. They ARE contagious, so you have to be careful not to have mouth to mouth or mouth to genital contact if you have a cold sore or feel one coming on.

    And yes, they are common. The big difference is that the "common cold" is actually a large number of different viruses, and they are removed by the immune system after a cold. HSV is a single virus (well, there’s a few herpes viruses but that will complicate the discussion). and stays in the body for life.
