My mother and my dad’s mother (so it’s on both sides of my family) had breast cancer. My mom keeps telling me that birth control pills will increase my already higher-risk of developing cancer, since birth control pills mess with your hormones.
Is it true? If I take birth control, will it increase my chances of getting cancer? Because my mom had a breast cancer that was hormone receptive.

i have done some research on this because i want to go on bc but all the females on my dads side had breast cancer. what i’ve found was that most people agree that it lowers your risk of cervical and/or uterine cancer but no one seems to agree on whether it increases the risk of breast cancer. some say yes, some say no. i would talk to your doctor or whomever is prescribing you the bc- maybe you can go on the shot or the patch, or only take the pill for a couple years. find out what’s best for you specifically.
